Four of us started the trip, Neil headed out after a few days and left Ken, Greg L and Greg G to finish. I was having battery trouble the whole trip and it finally gave out in southern Idaho. I decided to take it apart in its entirety to discover that my alternator winding was not up to factory standards and no parts existed to help in a timely manner. So after discussing it with an experienced parts person and my two partners, I decided\u00a0 to buy a car battery (and cables), run it on a total loss system and hope for the best. We decided that straight (not quite) back was the best plan, the previous days had been great so two long days to get to Calgary was doable. Well it got me 400 plus miles the first day! In retrospect, I should have bought a real battery charger, not the trickle charger. The second day I ran out of charge 15 miles(?) from Ken&#8217;s house, Greg and Greg waited for Ken to charge up a battery and deliver it before we made the final trek. My thanks to Ken and Greg L for delaying\/changing their trip and all the activities associated with the repair of my bike. I bought a car battery in McCall and pulled a couple of fuses (lights) and it ran on a dead loss. The battery not installed yet, it was not fully charged with the light-duty charger I bought but I did not know it at that time! GregXGreg waited for Ken to get and charge a car battery of his and bring it back to us. We waited less than an hour.
