Down through Montana, Beartooth Pass, Chief Joseph Byway Wyoming, around Yellowstone, Idaho and back through Creston BC. Four of us started the trip, Neil headed out after a few days and left Ken, Greg L and Greg G to finish. I was having battery trouble the whole trip and it finally gave out in southern Idaho. I decided to take it apart in its entirety to discover that my alternator winding was not up to factory standards and no parts existed to help in a timely manner. So after discussing it with an experienced parts person and my two partners, I decided to buy a car battery (and cables), run it on a total loss system and hope for the best. We decided that straight (not quite) back was the best plan, the previous days had been great so two long days to get to Calgary was doable. Well it got me 400 plus miles the first day! In retrospect, I should have bought a real battery charger, not the trickle charger. The second day I ran out of charge 15 miles(?) from Ken’s house, Greg and Greg waited for Ken to charge up a battery and deliver it before we made the final trek. My thanks to Ken and Greg L for delaying/changing their trip and all the activities associated with the repair of my bike. THANKS Ken and Greg!
Greg L. pictures.
Greg L is a more dedicated filmographer than I! Stef (GregL’s better half) took the pic just outside his house before we left.
Stef took a picture with both of us as well. We had to zip across town to hit the highway but I had battery trouble (Warning!). Greg L used some credit he had at a dealer and got me a battery. Little did I know that wasn’t the true cause.

From here we dropped into Chief Mtn Montana and East Glacier. (No Pictures!)

We flirted with the edge of Yellowstone but never went right in.
I should edit these more carefully!

Beartooth Pass is just under 11,000 feet at the peak. This is one of many vista’s along the way!

arguably a better road than the Beartooth Pass. Too bad we don’t have a picture of the road!

Maybe Ken’s got pictures of the road!

Greg finding out why his new battery won’t charge. There is not many pictures of the failure of my bike but it got intense, I took my bike inside of a Parts Store and took my charging system all apart before I had to give up for the night.

It was a cool night!

There is over 400 km between here and McCall. I bought a car battery in McCall and pulled a couple of fuses (lights) and it ran on a dead loss. It ran like a Champion all day!
What a huge breakfast, I’ll ask where in Creston we went …
Just up the hill behind Jimmy’s. The battery not installed yet, it was not fully charged with the light-duty charger I bought but I did not know it at that time! I need to smile more, I’ve got great friends and having good times!
We’re close to Calgary now!

I ran both my batteries down to zero at this point. GregXGreg waited for Ken to get and charge a car battery of his and bring it back to us. We waited less than an hour. We charged the batteries fully over night for the drive to Edmonton.
